When choosing a real estate agent, PERSONALITY MATTERS! Obviously, you want to choose a professional and experienced agent. After all, they will be assisting you in making the biggest financial purchase you’ll make in your life. But other than that, what are the characteristics you should look for? I think the number one quality is personality. You will be spending lots of time on the phone and in person with your agent and you ought to “click” with them. He/she should be personable, sincere and pleasant to be around. Customers should choose an agent with a positive outlook, someone who makes themselves available to talk, someone who listens to them and understands their unique situation and respects their time and budget restraints.

One of my instructors in real estate classes said that the some of the most effective realtors were former teachers. I taught public school for eleven years after homeschooling my children for seven years. I don’t know of any job that requires more patience, flexibility and attention to detail more than teaching. We plan, teach, explain, modify lessons and reteach concepts in ways that students can understand. It is the same with real estate. It can be especially daunting for first-time buyers. I am a good “explainer.” Buying or selling real estate is huge life event, and clients need to have a clear understanding of all that it entails.
